Hello July!

How is it already July?! It always feels like that first week after school gets out is a little iffy—figuring out a new routine, adjusting to everyone being home, and settling into summer mode. But then… time flies.

As you continue planning for this summer (or maybe already thinking ahead to next), I wanted to keep sharing a few of our family’s favorite vacation spots—ones that are super doable with kids, yet a bit off the typical family travel radar.

This week’s pick: Mackinac Island, Michigan.

We LOVED this trip. Honestly, my kids still ask when we’re going back!

What makes Mackinac Island so special? There are no cars. None. You get around by bike, foot, or horse-drawn carriage. It makes the whole island feel peaceful, safe, and like something out of a storybook.

Our favorite thing was renting bikes and riding the 8.2-mile loop around the island. We stopped at fun spots along the way, skipped rocks, snacked, and just enjoyed the ride.

Other highlights:

• Visiting fudge shops (a total kid favorite)
• Exploring Fort Mackinac with its cool views and hands-on history
• Staying at Mission Point Resort, where the kids could run wild on the Great Lawn while we relaxed with lake views
• Mini golf at sunset—the kind of moment that becomes a forever memory

And while I was nervous about the ferry and hauling our luggage, it couldn’t have been easier. Luggage carts were available right in the parking lot. The ferry crew helped us load everything, and somehow our bags just magically appeared at our hotel when we arrived. (Same smooth process when we left, too!)
