Hi friend,

This isn’t always something we talk about… but it’s real life.
Sometimes trips don’t go as planned.

It’s not something we expect when we’re dreaming it up, booking it, and counting down the days.
And honestly, it’s not always the part we want to share with others afterward.

But it happens.

Maybe someone got sick for a few days.
Maybe the weather didn’t cooperate at all.
Maybe it was just one of those days where nothing seemed to go right.

Or maybe your flight got delayed or cancelled… and suddenly your trip felt shorter or more stressful than you planned for.

And when that happens, it can feel like the whole trip is off.

It can feel disappointing.
Frustrating.
Like maybe you picked the wrong place or planned it wrong.

Maybe you've even said— "we're never doing this again!" I know I have.

But I want to say this—mom to mom—

We’ve had plenty of imperfect trips.

We’ve had days on vacation that just weren’t good.
Days where plans fell apart, moods were off, or things just didn’t click the way we hoped they would.

And in those moments, it can feel big.
Like it’s defining the whole experience.

But what’s interesting… is that when I look back on those trips now,
those hard moments don’t feel as big as they did at the time.

And the good moments?
Those are the ones that stand out.

The laughter.
The little wins.
The memories we didn’t even realize we were making in the moment.

In the middle of a tough trip, it can feel like everything is off.
But looking back… it rarely feels that way.

And that’s something I’ve had to remind myself of more than once.

Because the truth is, we can’t control everything that happens on a trip.
There are always going to be things that don’t go the way we planned.

But that doesn’t mean you picked the wrong destination.
It doesn’t mean you did anything wrong.
And it definitely doesn’t mean the trip wasn’t worth taking.

Sometimes it just means… it was a real trip.

If your last trip didn’t go how you hoped, you’re not alone.
And it doesn’t mean your next one won’t feel completely different.

And, if you have a trip coming up, just remember—you don’t have to control every part of it.
Stay flexible, give yourself some grace, and hold onto the good moments when they come.
