We’re heading into summer travel season—or some of us are already in it—and if your brain is juggling destinations, drive times, and who’s going to sleep where—you’re not alone. 🤯

Even after 11+ years of traveling with kids, I still hit a wall sometimes when it’s time to choose where we’re going next.

The possibilities are exciting—but the logistics? Exhausting.

Lately, I’ve been thinking ahead to future trips, and here’s what I keep running into:

• Should we fly or drive?
• Can we even find a hotel or rental that fits all six of us?
• Are our travel points even useful for this trip?
• Can we afford to fly—or does driving make more sense?
• Do we even have enough time to make this trip work?
• What can we actually handle without burning out?

So here’s how I get unstuck:

✏️ First, I make a big list.

All the places I want to go. Bucket list trips, weekend getaways, close-to-home ideas—everything.

Then I ask:

👉 What does our family need most right now?​
Rest? Adventure? Connection? Breathing room?

That one question usually helps me cut the list down fast.

But more than anything, I think about what my kids can realistically handle.

There are national parks I dream of visiting, but I know the long drives between stops won’t be enjoyable for my little ones right now. So I mentally file that trip under “maybe in a year or two.”

Not every destination is right for this season. And that’s okay.

So if you’re in decision-mode, here’s what I’ve learned:

✅ It doesn’t have to be perfect
✅ It doesn’t have to check every box
✅ It just has to work for your family—right now (or whenever your next trip is)

And that’s where the magic happens. 🪄

When it’s the right trip for your people, it doesn’t have to be fancy or far. It just has to fit. 💛
