Hi Reader!

Last week I shared how mindset can totally transform your family travel experience. This week? We’re getting practical.

After years of traveling with four kids—on planes and trains, in cars, during sports seasons, and across time zones—I’ve learned a few tricks that make life so much easier on the road.

And today, I’m sharing five of my favorite family travel hacks that save me time, money, and stress every single trip.

✈️ 1. The “Trip Bag” System

Each kid gets a backpack they carry—and it includes their snacks, entertainment, and a full change of clothes (yes, even for the older ones). This prevents “Mom, where’s my…” a hundred times a day and puts some responsibility on them, too.

🧃 2. Snack bins > snack bags

Skip the giant snack bag you have to dig through and use a plastic bin instead. Everything stays visible, organized, and easy to grab at a rest stop or in the backseat. Bonus: it’s easy to refill between legs of the trip.

👉 Honestly, I use a labeled bin for just about everything we pack in the car on road trips—snacks, activities, diapers, shoes—you name it. It keeps things easy to find and (mostly) easy to return to their spot.

🏷️ 3. Packing cubes (even for the kids)

I resisted these forever, but now I’m obsessed. Each kid gets their own color, and I can pack full outfits (shirt/pants/undies) in a cube so they can grab and go. It keeps hotel drawers from exploding, too.

🔌 4. Power strip = peace

One outlet in a hotel room for six people? Nope. I always pack a compact power strip so we can charge all the devices without fighting over plugs.

🎒 5. The “Mom First” mini bag

I always keep a small pouch in my bag with lip balm, gum, hair ties, wipes, lotion, travel Tylenol, and a protein bar (or some candy) Because when I’m taken care of, I can take care of everyone else better.

You don’t need a fancy system or Pinterest-perfect travel plan—you just need a few real-life tricks that actually work for busy families like ours.

Got a favorite travel hack of your own? I’d love to hear it—hit reply and tell me!

Stay tuned for more packing tips, behind-the-scenes travel hacks, and inspiration to make your trips stress-free and fun. I’m all about helping you make family travel as smooth as possible, so you can create memories without the headache.
