Hi friend,

Can we talk about spring break flights for a second?

Every year I start looking. Every year I think maybe this is the year we’ll fly somewhere warm.

And then I start adding it up.

Six plane tickets. Rental car. Peak hotel pricing.

And suddenly I’m closing my laptop thinking… absolutely not.

If you’re there too, you’re not crazy. Spring break airfare is wild.

But here’s the thing we’ve learned as a Midwest family of six:

Some of our best spring break memories have started in our driveway.
And I mean literally.
We’ve eaten dinner in the driveway before pulling out because I had already cleaned the house and was not about to let one single crumb back in.

No airport stress.
No rental car lines.
No praying our luggage makes it.

Just snacks packed, playlists ready, and a destination we can actually afford.

We’ve actually road-tripped to every one of these destinations as a family of six.

Most of them we’ve done during spring break specifically, and the others we’ve visited in different seasons and would absolutely recommend for spring.

Here’s why we love these spots for spring break:

Mountains + Built-In Entertainment
Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge

Theme Park Fun (Without Disney-Level Overwhelm)
Branson

Budget-Friendly City Trips with Tons of Family-Friendly Attractions
St. Louis and Kansas City

One of the Best Zoos in the Country + A Walkable Downtown
Omaha

Warmer Weather + Big Attractions
Dallas–Fort Worth

Scenery + Adventure
Colorado Springs

Unique, Memorable Attractions
Chattanooga

If you’re feeling the spring break itch but nothing is booked,
you’re not behind.

A road trip is completely doable.
And it might be exactly what your family needs this year.

And you know why I love road trips?

Because we are in control.

We set the pace.
We pack what we need.
We stop when we want.

For our family, that flexibility is what makes spring break feel doable instead of stressful.

If flying isn’t realistic this year, it doesn’t mean skipping spring break. It might just mean shifting the plan.

If you want my full breakdown of driveable spring break spots (with what we loved at each), I put them all together here:

Spring break doesn’t have to be flashy to be meaningful.

Sometimes the best trips are the ones where you throw the bags in the car and just go. 💛
