Hi friend, We leave for spring break at the end of this week. Which means this is the part of travel I actually love. Not the packing chaos. Not the airport. Not even the destination yet. The preparation. Over the years, I’ve realized that the week before a trip sets the tone for the entire vacation. So here are the five things I always do before we leave. Nothing extreme. Just simple habits that make everything smoother. 1️⃣ I Double Check the WeatherNot just a quick glance. I look at daytime highs, nighttime lows, wind, rain — all of it. Spring especially can surprise you. ☔️💨☀️🌨 This helps me adjust outfits, shoes, and layers ahead of time so we’re not scrambling at the last minute. 2️⃣ I Start Packing EarlyI don’t pack everything at once. But I pull out the suitcases early and start a running pile. If someone needs new sandals. I want time to handle it calmly — not the night before. 3️⃣ I Make a Simple “See & Eat” ListNot a minute-by-minute schedule. Just a short list of: That’s it. It keeps us focused without overplanning. 4️⃣ I Prep Travel EntertainmentAudiobooks and music downloaded. Sometimes I’ll grab a small surprise item for the car too. A little prep here makes the drive feel a whole lot shorter. 5️⃣ I Reset the House Before We LeaveThis one might sound small, but it makes a huge difference. Laundry caught up. We’ve literally eaten dinner in our driveway before leaving because I had already cleaned and didn’t want crumbs back in the house. Walking into a clean home after vacation changes everything. It makes the trip feel complete instead of chaotic. The week before a trip doesn’t have to feel frantic. A little preparation goes a long way. And if you’re heading out for spring break soon, I hope this helps you feel just a little more in control. Stay tuned for more packing tips, behind-the-scenes travel hacks, and inspiration to make your trips feel doable and fun. I’m all about helping you make family travel as smooth as possible, so you can create memories without the headache.
