Happy Tuesday!

Last week I shared an overview of our West Coast road trip—and this week I’m diving into the dreamy and totally doable Oregon Coast portion.

This stretch was such a win for our family of six. We got ocean views, fun kid-approved stops, and a good mix of relaxing and exploring.

If you’ve ever thought about taking your family to the Oregon Coast, here’s exactly what we did—and why it worked so well.

🏖️ Stop 1: Seaside – A Beach Town That’s Actually Walkable

We stayed in a VRBO right on the beach in Seaside, which made everything feel easy. Not only were we just steps from the ocean, but we were also right on the Promenade—so we could walk to shops, restaurants, the arcade, and more.

This setup was perfect for our family—we could head down to the beach anytime we wanted, and best of all, we didn’t have to load everyone into the car every time we wanted to eat or find something fun to do.

🌊 Stop 2: Cannon Beach + Haystack Rock

One of the reasons I chose Seaside was because I’ve always wanted to see Haystack Rock—and it was just a short drive away in Cannon Beach.

Cannon Beach has a totally different vibe from Seaside—more charming and picturesque—and seeing Haystack Rock in person was definitely worth the hype. We went during low tide, which meant we could walk right up to the rock and see it up close. The tide pools were incredible—we saw so many sea stars and other marine life.

We didn’t stay long, but walking the beach, exploring the tide pools, and snapping some family photos here was one of my favorite moments of the trip.

🌲 Stop 3: Astoria – Quick Stops, Big Wins

On our way out of Seaside, we spent a couple of hours in Astoria, and I’m so glad we did.

We visited the Astoria Column, which has amazing views—and the boys were thrilled to climb to the top and launch their gliders (a must-do if you visit!).

Then we popped into the Oregon Film Museum, which turned out to be such a fun surprise. The kids got to “film” their own scenes using different movie sets—it was quirky and memorable in the best way.

👏 Why this Oregon Coast route worked:

  • Seaside gave us a home base that was both beachy and convenient.
  • Cannon Beach was the perfect low-effort day trip for a big scenic payoff.
  • Astoria gave us kid-friendly stops that broke up the drive and added fun.
  • And the entire route felt relaxed—not rushed.

If the Oregon Coast is on your list, I hope this shows you that it’s not only stunning but also super doable with kids in tow.

Next week I’ll be sharing what we loved (and ate!) in Leavenworth, Washington, a mountain town that totally charmed us.

Stay tuned for more packing tips, behind-the-scenes travel hacks, and inspiration to make your trips stress-free and fun. I’m all about helping you make family travel as smooth as possible, so you can create memories without the headache.
