Hi friend,

As the leaves are changing colors and starting to fall, I find myself daydreaming about how amazing it would be to take a train ride somewhere this time of year. 🚞 🍁

We don’t take trains often, but last summer we rode the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Banff National Park—and it was magical. 💕

If this sounds fun for your family, here are answers to the questions I get most:

Do you sleep on the train? No. It’s a two-day daytime journey (about 10–11 hours each day). The train stops at night and Rocky Mountaineer shuttles you to a hotel—they also handle your luggage.

Did the kids get bored? Honestly, no. They loved the views, meals/snacks, chatting with the staff, stepping outside for fresh air, doing a little drawing/writing, and yes—some iPad time. Big win: they could walk around (not strapped in like a car or plane).

Did you get motion sickness on the train?
We didn’t, and the ride felt smoother than car or plane travel for us.

Kid-Friendly Features we loved

  • Special meals & snacks: kid meals offered; chef happily tweaked for picky eaters; fresh fruit + chocolate bars.
  • Friendly, engaging staff: our boys bonded with the hosts—kind, approachable, attentive.
  • Unique gifts: color-your-own Rocky Mountaineer backpack (with crayons) + an aluminum water bottle—quiet, happy kids.
  • Freedom to explore: easy bathroom breaks, fresh-air moments, no seatbelt signs.
  • Window watching & wildlife: panoramic windows + staff pointing things out—we spotted eagles, mountain goats, and even bears.

Parent perks: a peaceful coffee with mountains rolling by, a glass of wine in the evening, and not having to drive.

I put all the details here—what made it so special, photos, route notes, and kid tips ⤵️

Stay tuned for more packing tips, behind-the-scenes travel hacks, and inspiration to make your trips stress-free and fun. I’m all about helping you make family travel as smooth as possible, so you can create memories without the headache.
